A Freelancer’s Guide To Setting Realistic Goals for 2021

And just like that 2020 has come to an end.

It has definitely been a year to remember (although maybe not for the right reasons)…

This year has taught us how to appreciate everything and everyone and has proved that anything really is possible.

Start 2021 on the right foot with a good idea of what you want to achieve in the New Year.

Here are our top tips to setting goals:

  1. Recognise What You Have Achieved

It’s been a difficult year for everyone.

But you need to work out how you have been successful regardless of the pandemic.

Write down a list of everything you have achieved and completed.

This could be anything from amazing projects and client wins to impressive reporting metrics.

You can also write about low points or things you might have struggled with – you can then use this as a benchmark for how to improve this in the coming months.

  1. Write Down What You Would Like To Achieve In 2021

Looking back at what you’ve achieved this year, decide on how you want to progress over the next 12 months.

Be specific about each of your goals. For example, in numeric terms: increase revenue by 10%.

Make sure goals are measurable and attainable, otherwise you will find it difficult to decide when you have met them.

Rank your goals in order of importance as well as making a note of a timeframe.

We suggest to aim to have at least five goals for 2021.

  1. Break Them Down Into Smaller Targets

Break down your goals into smaller targets. This will make them seem much easier to reach.

Make sure you have them written down somewhere you can read and refer to easily.

  1. Work Out An Action Plan

Now you have written up targets and goals, it is up to you to plan how you’ll actually meet them.

Lay out a blueprint.

This doesn’t have to feature every step of the way to meeting the end goal, but a rough idea of what you need to do along the way.

  1. Write Some Personal Goals Too

It’s important to also look at yourself and see what you have achieved personally over the last year.

This could be anything from family life to your own personal development.

Personal goals could be anything to do with your growth as an individual through attending extra training and online courses, or simply making time to exercise and workout.

Be sure to also write down your personal goals so you can tick them off throughout the year and be proud of your accomplishments.
